For the longest time I've wondered who "the Academy" is...I figured it's most likely a group of white-haired balding old guys in a conference room of sorts. Perhaps that's largely the case, but after some google-ing I found that the Academy is comprised of some younger folk like Jake Gyllenhaal *cue girls cheering* as well.
Every year there are always a good bunch of movies I've never heard of. This year I'm adding The Artist, a black & white film, Hugo, The Iron Lady, My Week with Marilyn, and The Descendents to my list. Of course there are always those films I never got around to watching like The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
My favorites were definitely the Cirque du Soleil performance and the dresses. I thought the ladies looked fabulous last night - here are (in no particular order) my top 6 picks!
{Cameron Diaz in Gucci + Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel}
I'm loving these nude dresses, whether sleek or soft. Cameron's still sporting her always-smile, and Kristen showed up with her whole posse of Bridesmaids.
{Penelope Cruz in Armani Privé + Glenn Close in Zac Posen}
I love Penelope's off-the-shoulder organza gown - so elegant. And who can get over how amazing Glenn Close looks? I still think of her in 101 Dalmatians back in 1996 and she still looks beautiful!
{Angelina Jolie in Atlelier Versace + Natalie Portman in vintage Haute Couture Christian Dior}
And of course, Angelina, "the original girl with the dragon tattoo". I love the shape of her sexy black dress with a high slit for some extra sexy, though her arms are creepily skinny in my opinion. The sweet Natalie Portman who walked out to the Star Wars theme song looked fabulous post-baby.
Happy Monday!

Megan, what did you think about Michelle Williams? She was absolute favorite! Most everyone else played it a little safe, in my opinion. And I totally agree about Angelina Jolie - she looked like a skeleton!
Sonya: I loved the color of Michelle's dress and it's unique bodice! Not such a fan of the bow brooch on the hip, though. Definitely very red carpet material. Honestly, a lot of the gowns I thought were very bridal looking, but it's always fun to watch. (:
