wedding style {bhldn}

ever since bhldn {beholden} launched, i've been hooked.  there are such beautiful + affordable gowns for brides and precious gifts + decor for entertaining.  here are a few of my favorite things they have in their new sale!

i love {lindsay letters}!

 since the moment i saw her work, i was in love.  lindsay of lindsay letters is nothing short of incredible. her modern + whimsically penned works are a must-have!  i'm so excited about the new lindsay letters shop so everyone can get in on the fun.  this whatever is lovely print in rose gold is one of my favorites.
 lindsay also released a new holiday line!  since i'll probably be in the dc/va area for christmas, i can totally see this white christmas print on my wall in eager anticipation for some good snow this year.
 here's a quick look at the other holiday prints.  really, they're all fabulous.  how could you choose just one?!
 until i have a permanent home i'll be holding off on getting one of these, but i'm all about having a good stamp.  lindsay's custom stamps are phenomenal and so unique.
 i owe my obsession with lindsay's work to my boss lady at fig. 2 design studio who knows all these fabulous people who do amazing things.  we recently created this nautical wedding suite for brides magazine with lindsay {grab a copy and check it out!}.  big thanks to MK for the stunner pic.
hand lettering will never ever go out of style for me.
now get on over to lindsay's shop and continue swooning! (;

new beginnings 2.0

It's been a crazy weekend, y'all!  Painted my new room, packed, moved, and planned a poolside wedding on private property all in one weekend.  If that's not productive, I'm not sure what is.  I've been looking at paint swatches, light fixtures, storage ideas - the whole nine yards.  This move was no doubt significantly easier than the previous one (from Texas to Virginia), but different.  I've had a great time living in the Clarendon area of Arlington - a bustling little city along the outskirts of DC - but now I'm more in the 'burbs with a nice lush green drive following me to my new casa.  I've been taking pictures of my paint progress, but here are a few Instagrams.

Mad props to Michelangelo for all his work because painting on ceiling is no joke.  Okay, so I didn't paint my ceiling, but I did have to fix the wall-ceiling trim of the room and that was hard enough.  So it's goodbye to my wood-paneled cozy attic room and hello to coral walls and hardwood floors.
Thanks to all who helped me move and got a great "stairmaster" workout climbing up and down my house.  Off to rearranging, buying a few new pieces, rearranging some more, and organizing galore!
P.S.  When I'm MIA from the blog, follow me on Pinterest for some guaranteed activity.

Splendid Wedding Survey

If you got married after 2007 or are planning to tie the knot soon, help out Liene (Splendid Communications) and take this global wedding market survey.  Her work is incredible, inspiring, intriguing and empowering.  If you submit your wedding, don't forget to email hello@thinksplendid.com with "Splendid Wedding Survey" in the subject title so you can get the full general report when it's released.

Tomorrow will be a recap of Charlottesville, so stay tuned!

{wedding invitations} floral + elegant

DC's beautiful cherry blossom season has begun!  The trees are budding and I can't wait to see it in all of it's splendor.  A lot of lawns in the northern Virginia area have a patch of daffodils (don't ask me why), but the pops of yellow in the grass just make me happy.  Not to mention, Holly Chapple's been in New York all week with her Chapel Designers.  So with the flowers all around, I figured I'd post some floral wedding invitations that have some class.

Happy Friday!

The cherry blossoms are starting to bloom - hooray!  It's a bit early (so I hear), but I'm happy to see things growing on the bare branches again.  Here are some links for your weekend!

{wedding invitations} we're classy

Since I've been working for Claudia, I find myself around stationery all the time.  Trust me, this is not a complaint, but a thankfulness for gaining insight on such an underrated industry.  Most of you reading probably have no idea what it takes to make a simple card you buy at Target.  Though these cards are probably made in bulk, most of them digitally printed on the most cost-efficient paper, someone had to come up with the idea, the text, and the design.  This is the type of work we're a part of, and we're not alone!  We work from the bottom up - from empty Illustrator files and color swatches to printing options and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the feels of paper.

In May I'll be heading to New York for the National Stationery Show (and I am so excited!), so I figured I'd start sharing some of my favorite paper products and wedding invitations with y'all.

happy weekend!

Not gonna lie, this is really what I would love to do this weekend.  Too bad it's been raining here, I have no such dock to read on, and it's been a while since I've gotten to simply sit down with a good book.  At the very least I have Kinfolk (more on that another time).  Anyhow, it's been a busy week, but a good one nonetheless.  Looking forward to many things in the near future!  Here are some links for your weekend:

Save the Dates | Tokketok

First off, I have a major weakness for letterpress.  This, my friends, is not letterpress, but I'm loving it!  Check out these vellum better together save the dates from Tokketok.  They are so simple, sleek, and straight to the point.

{bridal gowns} Monique Lhuillier

I recently picked up my Spring 2012 copy of Martha Stewart Weddings and was instantly drawn into the Monique Lhuillier ads.  I checked out her Spring 2012 collection and found a good mix of blush gowns, lace, and some tea-lengths.  I pulled 5 of my favorites.  What do you think of wearing blush instead of white?  Definitely not traditional, but I think it's perfect for Spring!

{Candy}
The embroidery on this is stunning!  Though I'm not a huge fan of the bow tie in the middle, I love the tulle skirt.

Happy Friday + Valentine's

Not gonna lie, it's been a long week in every sense of the word.  I wish I could transport to this place, drive around these roads to the sea and watch the sunset with a cup of tea warming my hands.  Mmm...

It's that fateful weekend of Valentine's Day - one of my not-so-favorite holidays because everything is atrociously red, but I will say that I love the abundance of chocolate around.  We're having a Valentine's banquet at church tonight and I'm anticipating lots of desserts!  Here's a few links for your weekend:

Spring Flowers & NYC

Flowers: The Nouveau Romantics (TX) | Photo: The Nichols
This week I've been helping Holly Chapple blog while she's on vacay for her 25th wedding anniversary.  In light of all the Chapel Designers School NYC talk, I decided I'd post a few spring bouquets and centerpieces I think are beautiful.  Sadly I won't be joining the lovely Chapel Designers in March, but I will be in May for the National Stationery Show with Fig 2 Design!

the bridesmaid dilemma: the dress (cont'd)

In case you missed it, last week I talked a little about a common problem bridesmaid's face: their dresses. As a follow-up I thought I'd post some other images, ideas, and resources for bms to get your brain storming.

It's totally possible to have all the same style dress. The key is to choose a color (or pattern!) that fairs well on most skin tones. I love these striped dresses for a casual look, and check out those pockets! I would definitely wear that again to a fancy Saturday brunch with the girls. I also believe that navy looks good on everyone, and it's easy to dress it up or dress it down.

the bridesmaid dilemma: the dress

We all know the center of attention goes to the bride on the wedding day, but there seems to be a common dilemma amongst bridesmaids: their dress. Having bridesmaids of multiple ethnicities and body types can put a future bride into a bit of a pickle when it comes to deciding on dresses for her favorite partners in crime. Often times the bride-to-be will pick a dress style or color that she likes in the magazine, but looks horrid when tried on by even her most stunning of friends. And to make matters worse, her less-than-thrilled bff's end up shelling out $200+ for the bolts of fabric they will never wear again. Sad story, I know, but it's kind of true.

Here's two bits of advice for you: communicate & compromise.
It's not rocket science, ladies.
pick a more affordable dress from F21 or Target and dress it up with brightly colored cardigans

inspiration board: burlap & twine

I'll admit that back in the day I was not a huge fan of the rustic look. I loved clean, modern lines (and still do), but over the past few years I've also developed a love for things wrapped in burlap and twine.

{wedding wednesday} holly's bridal shower

If you couldn't tell, it's hardcore wedding season time. One (of three) of my friends is getting married in Dallas! Her lovely bridesmaids threw her a shower and my dear friend, Amy (who also works for Branching Out Events), did these gorgeous tablescapes.

inspiration board: glass

Glass of any kind is such a versatile piece in decorating for weddings or in your home. It can definitely be a bit of a hassle to pack to keep everything safe, but I think it's well worth the trouble.

Mix clear bottles with milk glass vases for centerpieces or use apothecary jars for sweet snacks or coffee beans (as pictured). I love the hanging decanter lights, which give any event a very antique feel. Reused empty glass bottles not only save you money, but make for centerpieces that keep the eye interested and your wedding unique. Empty mason jars filled with water and a floating candle are great for a more rustic wedding, when you need just a little extra light on the tables. And, I stumbled upon this hanging wine bottle candle which would be great for a patio/deck wedding.

wedding video: cyndy + tim

{ cyndy & tim } from Chennergy on Vimeo.

Things that make me smile in this video:
1) watching the bridesmaids and groomsmen help each other get ready
(seeing how the groom needed 2 of his friends to help him dress & catching Cyndy fluff her dress)
2) the close-up on Cyndy's monochromatic bouquet - gorgeous, no?
3) everything the preacher said.

P.S. Please excuse the mess! I'm going through some layout/design changes (:

wedding inspirations in blush pink

A blushing bride can never go wrong with light hues of pink.
Think about using thick satin ribbon to hang lanterns with tea lights, or cascading various shades as a backdrop for your cake table. Use the same color ribbon (but a thinner variety) to tie table names to skeleton keys. They could take home the key as a favor, too!

I'm loving the fresh peonies on the cake, and those pink Chanel shoes would look stunning peeking out from under an organza ball gown. And, if you want to add a little bling bling to your wedding, use a brooch to fasten the ribbon together on your bouquet. It's a classy, but subtle way to keep your guests wondering -- real or fake?

Worthless fact: I also own a cardigan in this beautiful shade. (:

Question: What colors/themes would you like to see an inspiration board of?

video: joya + emre {wedding music video}

This is ridiculously cool & unconventional. Check out joya and emre | wedding music video from David Robin on Vimeo. My favorite part is when they have all the old folks say "dirty bit" -- so hilariously cute! The couple, bridal party, guests & even the planners look like they genuinely had a really great time. How fun!
