video: vanessa + fabien {short}
Check out Vanessa & Fabien's French wedding short. I love the sheer lacy cap-sleeves on her gown & all the white balloons. The shot where she's on the balcony looking out reminds me of the royal wedding that everyone's been so buzzed about. There's something about seeing weddings in other cultures that stirs me and brings me great joy.

indeed, macaroons are a delectable french treat.
i tried some americanized ones this past weekend in austin, texas at a shop called la boîte, which had more exotic flavors, but my favorite was the chocolate pistachio. there's just something about the texture that was still different from the ones in France.
my favorites so far that i've tried are from ladurée or pierre hermé, but the real experience was what I had last summer during my study abroad in France. i got a chance to live with a wonderfully charming French family and lived with 2 brothers and a sister. what luck that my 14-year-old brother was in school and learning to be a chef. they rotate between classes (where he learns english, too!) and working a restaurant. needless to say, he made some a-mazing desserts.
with my limited French, we still managed to make macaroons together one afternoon.
delicious apricot macaroons made by a 14-year-old and an amateur French speaker. not too shabby, right?

j'aime la France
last summer i had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in france. i stayed with a french family in a small town about 1.5 hours from paris, and i fell in love with the french language, culture, and life. i know that many think the french are snobs, that they're rude and paris is overrated - but it's a stereotype just like any in the U.S. i came to find that the french are a wonderful people, and that paris in it of itself is a whole different "country" than the rest of france (although i still want to go back to paris). thanks to catherine for this video.
c'est pour les gens qui aiment la france. france me manque beaucoup, mais j'espère revenir une autre fois.
